Research: Substance Designer

Substance Painter is a program used to develop materials for 3D models.

At first glance at an empty graph in Designer, you see slots for base color, normal, roughness, metallic, and height.

This is very similar to Unreal's material structure.  This bade learning the basics of implementing the tools to create a material for intuitive

.
You also have a display to show what your material looks like with the option of various shapes such as cubes and cylinders
..

You are able to control the background that your metal reflects as well to be see what your material can look like in different environments and lighting.

This is similar to Substance painter's structure which also allows you to do the similar referencing with background and environment

Also similar to Unreal's materials with adding visual scripts, you are able to add other components to each aspect of Designer's tools such as masks.  Here, I use a grunge map and levels to give more scuff the roughness of a materials.

You are then able to easily export your materials in Substance Painter to implement into your projects with functions you have implemented.

In the end, you are able to create new materials in any style for your games!  There is much more for me to learn in Substance Designer.  However, the surface of what I have learned has been quite useful in recent projects.
